Display

To begin with, the P480 flaunts a 7 inch IPS display with a 1024×600 pixels resolution. This multi-touch display supports a pixel density of 170 pixels per inch, which is not bad given the tablet’s price tag. In addition to being a multi-touch screen with 16 million colors, the P480’s display boasts of an ambient light sensor as well as a proximity sensor and accelerometer sensors.

The display of the P480 is an average display. However, it is more than ideal for viewing content online as well as watching videos. In fact, the resolution and brightness display of this tablet matches that of some expensive high-end and mid-range smartphones. Thus at its price point, the Micromax P480 is quite a bargain.

When compared to other tablets in the market, the seven inch display of the P480 is quite small. Nonetheless, this is to be expected from a handheld slate tablet. Also, the small size of the tablet is justified given its budget friendly price tag. Additionally, the display is relatively larger than that of other tablets within the P480’s price range. For instance, the Intex Cloud Flash, which costs the same as the P480 is fitted with a 5 inch screen while the Kult 10 4G also sports a 5 inch display. Of worth noting is that the Kult 10 4G costs 1000 Rupees more than the P480.

Design and Built

Similar to the display, the design of the Micromax Canvas P480 is quite basic. Presently, the tablet is available in white and blue color variants. The tablet’s rear panel is constructed from a rubberized plastic. On this panel is a silver Micromax Logo and the word CanvasTab inscribed in silver. At the bottom of the cover is the speaker.

The left edge of the tablet houses the volume rocker and power button while the 3.5 mm jack is located on top of the tablet near the primary rear camera. The right edge of the tablet is where you find the Micro SD card slot. The three navigation buttons of the tab are found at the bottom just below the screen. Also at the bottom is the USB port.

Weighing 640 grams, the P480 slate tablet is ideal for use on the go. The tablet measures 19.4 by 1 by 11.2 centimeters. Accompanying the tablet is a screen cover and a USB cable. The screen cover makes up for the tablet’s lack of a scratch resistant protective glass. Its rounded edges make it an easy to hold tablet.

User Interface and Software

The P480 boasts of an Android Kitkat 4.4.2 Operating System that can be upgraded to the Android Lollipop OS. This Operating System is a basic OS with an easy to navigate User Interface. To entice consumers, Micromax sells the P480 tablet with a number of pre-installed apps, including Hello TV, Quicklook and Truecaller. Quicklook is quite a handy app that ensures you are updated with your social circles, weather and news. All content can viewed on a customizable single screen. In addition to Quicklook, the tablet comes with multi-tasking capabilities. Thus, you can check your email and watch videos simultaneously on a single screen. With the P480 tablet you are able to do more in less time.

Performance and Battery

The brains of the P480 tablet is a MediaTek MT8382 W/M quad core processor that clocks 1.3 Ghz. Also, the tablet comes with 1 GB of RAM on board. This 1.3 Ghz quad core matches that of the Kult 10 4G, which as already stated costs more than the P480. With this quad core processor you are able to juggle through multiple apps and even play games of varying graphics. You will be delighted to learn that the P480 is a dual SIM tablet with several connectivity options.

Both GSM SIM cards support both 2G and 3G network. As for connectivity, the tablet comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity as well as GPRS and EDGE internet connectivity. In particular, the tablet supports the 802.11 b/ g/ n Wi-Fi standard and 4.0 Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the tablet does not have a radio and neither does it have 4G connectivity. However, no budget tablet in the P480’s price segment offers these features, so you are not losing out on anything. Also, the tablet comes with MP4 and MP3 compatibility.

The 8 GB of internal memory that you get with this tablet is not impressive, especially since you get like 5.03 GB to store apps, video and files. Nonetheless, the manufacturer gives you the freedom to expand it up to 32 GB. As for power, the tablet is powered by a 3,000 mAH battery that can last for 168.5 hours on stand-by. This is according to Micromax. The battery lasts for nine hours of talk time on the 2G network. The battery is non-removable, which makes the tablet durable and less susceptible to internal damages.

Camera

On the tablet’s back panel you find the primary 5 megapixel shooter with autofocus and LED flash. The back camera is capable of taking videos of 720 p. The autofocus feature of the P480 camera is not common among tablets within its price segment. Thus, you get something extra with this Micromax tablet. On the front, is the 2 megapixel secondary camera, ideal for taking selfies as well as making video calls to family and friends. Similar to its rear counterpart, the front facing snapper is capable of taking videos of 720 p.
