For starters, the Moto X Play comes with a full HD 5.5 inch IPS screen with a 1080p resolution, the same resolution you get with the high-end iPhone 6 Plus. Although some will be disappointed with Motorola’s decision to switch from the AMOLED screen technology of the previous Moto X to IPS, this best smartphone under 20000 Rs. comes with a 5.5-inch display which is exceptionally vibrant and bright. The X Play has a pixel density of 403 pixels per inch. The X Play’s 5.5-inch display cannot be compared to the 5.7-inch screen of the X style, which has a pixel density of 520 pixels per inch. However, this is not to say that you will not enjoy watching movies and playing games on your Moto X Play.
In addition to being clear, the display is also sufficiently bright for outdoor viewing. Also, the colors are vivid and based on estimates the X Play clocks 90 % for sRGB. Since the display is bright taking photographs in bright sunlight with this handset is not a problem.
It is important to note that adaptive brightness has to be switched on after purchase if you so wish. Also, depending on your preference, you might have to change from the factory default vivid to the more preferred realistic color. The latter is especially liked by fans of AMOLED displays.
Design and Build
The X Play is 10.9 mm thick in the middle and 8.9 mm thick at the edges. Admittedly, it is not the slimmest smartphone in Motorola’s portfolio. However, what the phone lacks in thinness it more than makes up for in compactness. Despite its large 5.5 inch display, the Moto X Play fits perfectly on one hand. This is due in large part to the difference in thickness between the mid-section and the edges.
The metallic frame of the phone’s edges gives it a premium feel and appearance. One of the unique design features of the X Play is the placement of the Micro SIM and Micro SD slots. Unlike in most phones, the micro SIM and micro SD slots of this smartphone are located on top of the phone alongside a 3.5 mm jack. This means that the left edge of the phone has no buttons. The right side, on the other hand, is where you find the power button and volume rocker. At the bottom is a USB port. The awkward placement of the SIM card and Micro SD may infuriate some, particularly since removing the micro SD results in loss of cellular coverage. However, it may also act to deter frequent removal of the micro SD.
At the back, the Moto X Play has a removable rubberized rear cover. This cover comes in a wide variety of colors making it easy for you to personalize your X Play smartphone. One of the few things that the X Play and X Style have in common is that they are both water resistant. Thus, the X Play does not get affected by accidental water splashes or spills. The water resistant capabilities of the phone can be attributed to its water repellent coating.
User Interface and Software
The simplistic Android experience you get with the Moto X Play is reminiscent of Nexus devices. The smartphone runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and has very little customization from Motorola. Therefore, the X Play is more likely to get updates quicker than other phones making this the best android phone under 20000 Rs. In addition to little customization from the manufacturer, the phone is sold void of carrier intervention. Thus, the user interface of this smartphone is less cluttered than that of other phones.
Performance and Battery
A Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core 615 processor that clocks 1.7 GHz powers the Moto X Play. The processor is backed by an Adreno 405 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. The X Play’s processor is more than capable of handling everyday tasks without a hitch. Hence playing games and multitasking is a breeze. As already stated in the first paragraph, the Moto X Play is known for its long battery life. The phone’s long battery life can be credited to the massive 3,630mAh battery that dominates the back. According to the manufacturer, the battery is able to power the X Play for up to 30 hours of light use. It is important to note that intensive tasks consume power. Thus, the smartphone can last up to 6 hours of heavy usage.
The 3,630 mAh battery shares the back with a 21-megapixel camera. The camera marks a significant improvement to the previous Moto X’s 13-megapixel camera. Being considered the best camera phone under 20000 Rs. the main camera, the rear shooter boasts an f/2.0 aperture and a host of modes including night mode, burst mode, panorama, and auto HDR.
A secondary 5-megapixel camera occupies the top front corner of the Moto X Play. This camera also marks an improvement to the previous Moto X’s 2-megapixel front facing camera.
